A new Glasgow-based wrestling promotion will run its first show this coming weekend. Pro Wrestling Innovation (PWI) will debut Friday in Viewpark Community Centre just outside of the city centre.
The promotion is the brain child of up-and-coming wrestler Declan Early, better known to Scottish wrestling fans as Krieger. A graduate of Airdrie’s Premier British Wrestling (PBW) School, Early has become a regular across the scene. He has cemented himself as a mainstay in Insane Championship Wrestling along with his tag team partner Lou King Sharp.
Having worked closely both in and out the ring with PBW lead trainer Ross Watson – who wrestles as Kid Fite – Early has now made the move to follow his mentors footsteps by bringing family friendly wrestling to an area near where he grew up.
He told Suplex Retweet: “My long term goal is to be able to make wrestling my full time job. I currently am doing reasonably well on the actual performing side of things. However, I want to add running shows to my skills.
“Ross who runs PBW has helped me from the very start and has been nothing but supportive in terms of me going for the shows and as a result I will always try and have spots available for some of the standouts of the PBW academy.”
Wrestling in Viewpark
Viewpark is not what you’d traditionally associate as a wrestling town. Whilst the nightclubs of the city centres are where ICW became a mainstay name, other areas around Glasgow have seen companies meet the market need for kid friendly forms of the sport.
Places such as Airdrie and Govan now hold regular wrestling shows to great success. Early believes the small town located between Bellshill and Uddingston could end up the same based on it’s similarities to the earlier mentioned areas.
Early added: “It’s a good working class area that I feel could really get behind the show. I think it’s a good thing for the wee ones of the area to see.
“I grew up in a fairly similar area and know how much I would have loved wrestling on my doorstep so really excited for it.”
Some of Scotland’s most well-known talent will appear at the inaugural Pro Wrestling Innovation show. This includes the likes of Davey Blaze, TJ Rage and Lucha DS.
Another who is booked for the show is an up-and-comer known as Dylan Angel. Having spent his childhood in Viewpark, getting the chance to perform in front of a home town crowd will be a special moment in the early days of his wrestling career.
He said: “Wrestling in my hometown is a dream come true. Viewpark will always hold a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to come home.”
Angel will main event the show facing off against Liam Thomson and BT Gunn.
Tickets for the show, which kicks off at 6.30pm are still available at Ringside World, with limited availability on the door on the night.
