It’s fair to say that every fan of the Scottish wrestling scene is aware of Kay Lee Ray.
Seen as one of the pioneers of women’s wrestling in the UK, she surprisingly didn’t grow up as a fan of the sport. She only began training as her boyfriend – Stevie Boy – was starting to make his way onto the wrestling scene.
Kay Lee Ray would take to wrestling like a duck to water though. Breaking the status quo by squaring off more with the guys than the gals, she helped put women’s wrestling on the map before the WWE Women’s Evolution was even a thought.
When placed up against her female colleagues though, they didn’t fail to conjure up some memorable moments. Stand outs include her feuds with Carmel and Viper, as well as her battles with a pre-WWE Nikki Cross.
2017 saw her work get recognised on a global stage when she was selected as one of the 32 wrestlers in the first annual WWE Mae Young Classic. Even though she was eliminated early doors, being selected amongst the world’s top female athletes shows how far Kay Lee has come.
Most recently, she was announced as part of the roster for the revived World of Sport Wrestling series on the ITV. We chatted with Kay Lee
ahead of her WOS debut chatting about getting in to wrestling, career highlights to date in other promotions and the future.
